Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut (2,700m)
Begin trekking through dense rainforest filled with birdlife and playful colobus monkeys. Overnight in Mandara Hut.
Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut (3,720m)
Climb through heath and moorland, with views of both Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Rest at Horombo Hut.
Day 3: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut (4,700m)
Cross the alpine desert, a stark yet beautiful landscape. Overnight at the base of the summit climb.
Day 4: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) → Horombo Hut
Begin the summit push around midnight. Reach Gilman’s Point, then Uhuru Peak at sunrise. Descend back to Horombo Hut for rest.
Day 5: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate
Trek down through moorland and rainforest. Collect your summit certificate at the gate.
(Optional Day 6: Acclimatization day at Horombo Hut.)
Coca-Cola Route
Marangu Route 5–6 Days
Nicknamed the “Coca-Cola Route,” Marangu is the only Kilimanjaro route with hut accommodations instead of tents. It is considered one of the easier paths but offers less varied scenery compared to other routes. Its steady slopes and shorter duration make it popular with first-time trekkers.

Summit push begins at midnight. Reach Uhuru Peak at sunrise, then descend to Mweka Camp.
