Kilimanjaro Routes

Day By Day Itinerary

Begin trekking through dense rainforest filled with birdlife and playful colobus monkeys. Overnight in Mandara Hut.

Climb through heath and moorland, with views of both Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Rest at Horombo Hut.

Cross the alpine desert, a stark yet beautiful landscape. Overnight at the base of the summit climb.

Begin the summit push around midnight. Reach Gilman’s Point, then Uhuru Peak at sunrise. Descend back to Horombo Hut for rest.

Trek down through moorland and rainforest. Collect your summit certificate at the gate.
(Optional Day 6: Acclimatization day at Horombo Hut.)

Coca-Cola Route

Marangu Route 5–6 Days

Nicknamed the “Coca-Cola Route,” Marangu is the only Kilimanjaro route with hut accommodations instead of tents. It is considered one of the easier paths but offers less varied scenery compared to other routes. Its steady slopes and shorter duration make it popular with first-time trekkers.

Hike through lush rainforest alive with birds and monkeys. Overnight at Machame Camp.

Climb into heath and moorland, with views across the Shira Plateau. Camp on the high plains.

Ascend to 4,600m at Lava Tower, then descend to Barranco Camp for acclimatization.

Climb the dramatic Barranco Wall, then trek across valleys to Karanga Camp.

Short but steep trek to Barafu, your base before the summit attempt.

Summit push begins at midnight. Reach Uhuru Peak at sunrise, then descend to Mweka Camp.

Descend through rainforest. Celebrate your achievement with a summit certificate.

Whiskey Route

Machame Route 7 Days

The “Whiskey Route” is the most scenic and popular Kilimanjaro trek. It offers diverse landscapes — from rainforest to moorlands, alpine desert, and glaciers — with excellent acclimatization. This route is ideal for those seeking challenge and beauty.

Day By Day Itinerary

Start in rainforest, hiking to Big Tree Camp. Wildlife like colobus monkeys may be spotted.

Climb out of the forest into heather moorland, reaching Shira Plateau.

Gentle trek across the plateau with stunning mountain views.

Ascend to 4,600m before descending to Barranco Camp for acclimatization.

Climb the Barranco Wall and cross alpine valleys.

Reach Barafu, the base camp for your summit night.

Begin summit push at midnight. Reach Uhuru Peak for sunrise, then descend.

Final descent through lush rainforest to exit the park.

Most Beautiful 

Lemosho Route 8 Days

Lemosho is one of the most beautiful routes, offering excellent acclimatization and fewer crowds in the early days. It joins the Machame Route on Day 4, providing varied scenery and a gradual ascent.

Day By Day Itinerary

Trek through farmland and pine forest to Simba Camp.

Steady climb through moorland with wide views over the plains.

Short but steep hike to a camp beneath Mawenzi Peak.

Cross the high-altitude desert between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.

Summit attempt begins at midnight. Reach Uhuru Peak at sunrise, then descend to Horombo.

Final descent through moorland and forest.
(Optional Day 7: Extra acclimatization day at Mawenzi Tarn.)

Wilderness Route

Rongai Route 6–7 Days

Approaching from the north, near the Kenyan border, Rongai is drier, quieter, and offers a unique perspective of the mountain. It’s less crowded and has a gentler slope, making it a great option for beginners.

Steep climb through dense rainforest to Umbwe Camp.

Tough ascent into heath zone, then to Barranco Valley.

Scramble up the Barranco Wall and trek alpine desert terrain.

Reach Barafu, summit base camp. Prepare for summit push.

Climb overnight to Uhuru Peak, then descend to Mweka.

Descend through rainforest and celebrate completion.

Steep Route

Umbwe Route 6 Days

The steepest and most direct route up Kilimanjaro. It’s very challenging and best suited for experienced trekkers looking for adventure.

Climb to Shira Plateau with panoramic views.

Gentle trek across alpine heathland.

Climb to 4,600m, then descend to Moir Hut for acclimatization.

Trek along northern slopes with wide views of the plains.

Reach summit base camp on the eastern side.

Summit push at midnight to Uhuru Peak, then descend to Mweka.

Scenic Loop

Northern Circuit 9 Days
